The school year is underway! Don’t miss our events and activities across Washington state

We hope your school year is off to a great start! League of Education Voters is continuing our outreach to communities and hosting events to get everyone engaged with our work in partnership on special education, supportive and safe schools, preparation for college and career, early learning, and education funding.

We hope you can join us at our Seattle annual luncheon on October 1st! Learn why Investing in ages 0-8 is a Game Changer. National expert Marquita Davis, Deputy Director of Early Learning for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will highlight challenges and solutions before us to strengthen early learning. We are excited to announce that Governor Jay Inslee will join us as a guest speaker! And we will also feature 2020 Washington Teacher of the Year Amy Campbell. Special thanks to our sponsors: Microsoft, the David and Cathy Habib Foundation, Boeing, the Tulalip Tribes of Washington, the Seattle Times, and the many table captains who are helping to get the word out about this exciting event. It’s not too late to sign up - and we will be raffling an iPad to people who arrive prior to table seating at 12:00.

Also, as a convening partner of the Investing in Student Potential coalition that advocates for students who need special education services, we’re hosting four new community listening sessions around Washington to follow the four that we have already held to help design a K-12 system where every student gets what they need, when they need it. Join parents, students, educators, policy experts, and local advocates at one of our events and sign up at the Investing in Student Potential website to join the coalition as an individual, company, or nonprofit organization. Together, we will imagine a better future for special education in Washington state.

In addition to Thursday's Investing in Student Potential community listening session, we are co-sponsoring two upcoming events in Spokane. The Spokane Coalition of Color's Candidate Forum is next Saturday, September 28. And ENGAGE is a conference-style gathering on the Whitworth University campus designed to connect and network teachers, students, organizations, and communities who value the engagement of every student in their own learning; showcase innovative educational programs, for students, teachers and other community members; and support efforts that stimulate and develop creative programs, schools, and organizations.

School board races are coming up and we’ve shared our first-ever League of Education Voters School Board Candidates Guide with helpful information about important state policy issues and school directors’ resources with all candidates running for school board in Washington. Check out our guide and let your candidates know that you are paying attention to school finance, special education, investments in early learning, positive school climates, and supports for school success. Don’t forget to vote November 5, 2019!

And finally, be sure to check out our 2018-2019 Annual Report. See info below, as you read more about our work.

Our 2018-2019 Annual Report is here
