Gearing Up to Advocate for Equity in 2021

As we inch closer toward the end of 2020 with a COVID vaccine finally in sight, League of Education Voters is focusing on the 2021 state legislative session and ways to support students, families, educators, and school districts during this challenging time.

Speaking of the upcoming legislative session, we are pleased to share our priorities for 2021:

In LEV staffing news, congratulations to Jacob Vela on becoming the new Director of Policy and Research. Jacob has done incredible work for the past 9 years and his promotion is well-deserved. Also, we are excited to announce Spokane native Kenji Linane-Booey as our new Spokane Regional Field Director, who will start on January 4. And please welcome Pam MacRae as our new Accountant and Lizzeth Mancilla as our new Engagement and Policy Intern.

Read more about our work below. I hope you and your family are able to connect this holiday week.

We must change the very foundation of our education systems and build the infrastructure to implement student-centered, equitable solutions. We must focus on community-driven solutions to support students and families who have been historically and systemically underserved - including students of color, students in poverty, students qualifying for special education services, students learning English, students experiencing homelessness, and students impacted by trauma. We must ensure that in this moment of crisis and opportunity, we create meaningful and lasting change. Together we can build better systems for the future of Washington students and families.
