Youth Advocacy Summit & Fall Fest

Free Community Youth Advocacy Event!

This is an event for youth, by youth, co-hosted by the Community Center for Education Results (CCER), League of Education Voters (LEV), and a team of youth partners from across the state. Alongside our youth partners, we invite students, parents, leaders, and members of the community to come listen, learn, and participate in the events that students are putting on. Learn from their experiences with school. See what issues they are passionate about. Listen to and honor their hopes for the future. Whether you are a young person yourself or another member of the community, we invite you to join us as we hear from students, families, and community members.   

Here is the event schedule:

9:00am – Participant check-in begins

11:00am – Workshops

• Persistence and How to Manage Rejection in Advocacy Work, led by Stacy Osoria of the Washington state Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC)
• Surviving Sexual Assault, led by Leigh Howard of the Choose 180 Youth & Young Adult Advocacy Program
• How to Write a Compelling Passion Piece and Practice It as a Speech, led by Speak With Purpose
• How to Get Mental Health, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in Your School, led by Jennifer Putman of League of Education Voters

12:30pm – Lunch

1:00pm  – Performance, with a special appearance by 2024 Washington state Teacher of the Year Blaire Penry

1:30pm  – Panel: A student-led conversation with Washington state Senator Claire Wilson

2:30pm  – Affinity Spaces: Youth and non-youth

3:15pm  – Coming Together

3:45pm  – Closing Remarks

 

Throughout the event, we will have interactive tables staffed by NAMI, the Seattle Student Union, the King County Library System, and other partners, as well as a LEV table where students can share what they would like to see happen in the 2024 Washington state Legislative Session.
